Project Example
Levels vs. time were used to help identify any time and frequency patterns within the sound. The 1/3 octave data is a time averaged signal and since the levels were low, we proceeded with a more advanced analysis method.
We started with analyzing the 1/3 octave bands versus time. From the spectrum shown below, we are able to see there is almost constant energy in multiple bands with several temporal patterns in 3 frequency ranges. This still does not help identify the root of the problem so we implemented our aurally equivalent analysis techniques.
From our aurally equivalent analysis, we concluded the primary negative sound affect is coming from the 4000 Hz band region (circled in red). This was confirmed after applying several different band stop and band pass filters, during the analysis, in order to specifically isolate the sound.
